Red Earth Roaming

This small, privately owned company has just one reliable, experienced guide and one beautiful 21-seater bus!

The guide is an Alice Springs local with five years' experience guiding for several different companies in the Red Centre. Her tours are personal, fun, affordable and always unique. With a very relaxed, informative and cozy style of guiding, she has learned from each company what suits her, what makes guests happy, and what she doesn't wish to do on her tours, which includes rushing!

Red Earth Roaming explores the spectacular West MacDonnell and East MacDonnell Ranges and around Alice Springs. With excellent local knowledge they can design any kind of charter trip to suit all needs, while always remaining affordable. Starting in April and ending in October, their East Macs Adventure day tour runs every Monday and Friday, the Ormiston Pound Experience runs each Wednesday, and private tours can be organised in between at any time of the year. They cater for groups of up to 16 guests, finding anything higher than that too impersonal.

Trips are filled with all kinds of information about nature, the environment and the Indigenous and European history of Central Australia. Always happy, always caring and always trying to teach people about the importance of respecting our beautiful planet.

East Macs Adventure

This leisurely day trip through the beautiful East MacDonnell Ranges will give you insight into the geological formation of these spectacular ranges as well as the local flora, fauna, Aboriginal and European history, and many other random facts about this highly unique part of Australia. Stopping first at beautiful Emily Gap, we then head down the track to stroll around Corroboree Rock, an impressive formation traditionally visited only by Aboriginal men. Then off to the stunning Trephina Gorge, dropping in to hug the Giant Ghost Gum along the way! The Gorge offers a short, 2km walk with incredible views, as well as an alternative stroll up the sandy river bed to view the rock art and the towering quartzite cliffs! To cool down, we will wind up at the quirky, historical Ross River Resort for lunch and a cuppa or a cold beer, then back to Alice Springs via Jessie Gap

(maximum 16 people)

Included: Hotel pick-up and drop-off & lunch

Ormiston Pound Experience

This is a full day hiking and sightseeing tour. The West Mac’s Ormiston Pound walk is arguably one of Australia's most spectacular day hikes, covering a variety of stunning landscapes from the wandering through the wide open spaces of the pound itself to boulder-hopping up the centre of the stunning gorge surrounded by towering quartzite cliffs. The trail is a moderately easy 8.5km circuit with a few hills to climb, and possibly a water crossing depending on recent weather events, so be prepared to get wet!

Starting early, we head directly to Ormiston to commence our trek, finishing up at Ormiston Gorge Cafe where we can enjoy a delicious lunch and the option for a swim in the cool green waters of the Ormiston River. On the way back we’ll stop in to visit the Ochre Pits and Ellery Creek, then Simpson’s Gap last of all to undergo the wallaby-spotting challenge and take in the sights as the evening sun begins to set on the glowing orange cliffs.
